Gifts to Designated Funds or Programs
This fund was established in honor of and in partnership with Catherine "Cathy" Erickson, DSAMn Board Member and Community Advocate. Cathy served on DSAMn's Board of Directors multiple times, most recently from June 2019 up until her death September 2021.
The purpose of this fund is to support DSAMn's efforts and programs focused on individuals with Down syndrome as they transition to and grow through adulthood with a focus on programs that increase access to high quality healthcare and support services for families navigating transition from pediatric to adult healthcare.
Donations to this fund will be designated to go directly to families experiencing financial hardship.
Donate to the Financial Assistance Program
DSAMN is the fiscal sponsor of Fiona's Hope, a nonprofit organization formed to address the comfort needs of families of hospitalized children during prolonged or unexpected hospital stays.
Kathleen Forney served as DSAMNās Executive Director for more than 20 years. She was passionate about family education. Donations to this fund will be designated to fund expert speakers for our education and conference programming.
We are thrilled to announce that the Down Syndrome Association of Minnesota (DSAMn) has won the 2023 Down Syndrome Association of the Year Award from the National Down Syndrome Congress. DSAMn earned this award in recognition of our work serving individuals with Down syndrome, specifically the value of advocacy work that can be done at a state level in a moment of crisis. When Minnesota published its vaccine rollout plan, we led the way advocating for the adoption of a risk-based vaccine rollout plan at the state and federal level.
This award also comes on the heels of almost five years of tremendous organizational growth. Since 2019, DSAMn has added several new programs and services including our Family Connector, Transition to Adulthood, and Performing Arts Programs. At the same time we expanded our existing programs to serve more families each year. We have increased our impact year over year ā serving three times more individuals with Down syndrome today than we were in 2018.
Along with our celebration of both this award and our tremendous growth, we are reaching out today with a direct ask to help fund our work moving forward. We continue to build programs to provide accurate information, support individuals and their families, offer skill-building programs, and advocate and promote awareness across the state. We appreciate your support in the past and are reaching out today to ask you to support DSAMn with a financial gift thatās meaningful to you.
Our goal to raise $1,000,000 by December 31 ā $500,000 through our annual Step Up Walk event and an additional $500,000 in individual and foundation support. We need you to make the organizationās next chapter an even bigger success. There are several ways to make a gift to support DSAMn - whether you write a check, donate via our website, support by starting a walk team, or make a gift another way - we are here to assist.

Transferring stock is an excellent way to support the Down Syndrome Association of Minnesota. A gift of securities can provide significant benefits, including increased value for your gift to DSAMN and decreased cost to you; a charitable income tax deduction for the fair market value of the gifted securities; and elimination of capital gains tax that would ordinarily become due if you had sold the appreciated securities on the open market and donated the proceeds of the sale to DSAMN. To make a gift, please contact both Morgan Stanley and the Down Syndrome Association of Minnesota.
