Many people celebrate and raise awareness by rocking their favorite pair of fun or mismatched socks.
It's a fun and easy way to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day at your school, workplace, daycare or with your family! The possibilities are endless!
Why socks? Because under a microscope, a pair of chromosomes look like a pair of socks!!!
What's a chromosome? Chromosomes are what make us all unique. They are found in the nucleus of all the cells in your body and contain genetic material (DNA) from each of your parents. Each cell typically contains 23 pairs or 46 total chromosomes. People with Down syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome number 21, so they 47 chromosomes in their cells.
How interesting is that!
