Target Audience: BIPOC parents of children with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities.

We are pleased to partner with our partner Down Syndrome Associations in Virginia, Texas, Missouri, and North Carolina to offer this webinar for BIPOC families. This presentation will discuss the overall history of racial bias in the medical setting and discuss methods of awareness and advocacy from a parental standpoint. It will include tips, techniques, and strategies to address the needs of their child and ensure functional, culturally responsive, and effective therapeutic services.

About the Speaker: Dr. Shameka Stanford is an Associate Professor at Howard University and the Co-Program Director for the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders. Dr. Stanford is the first and only Juvenile Forensics SLP in the United States. She is a clinically certified and licensed speech-language pathology. Through her work and research, Dr. Stanford has created cutting edge social justice and juvenile justice specialty courses for graduate CSD students, nationally known training programs for law enforcement and legal counsel, and national and international CE workshops and training for licensed SLP clinicians.
